STC-TAP-ER Thread Tapping Machine

THE STC-TAP-ER MACHINE MUST BE BOLTED SECURELY TO WORKBENCH WITH FOUR 5/16” BOLTS BEFORE USING.

THE STC-TAP-ER IS CAPABLE OF TAPPING UP TO 5/16-18 THREAD IN 1/2” MILD STEEL. IT CAN ALSO BE USED TO RETAP THREADED PARTS, CHASE THREADS, REMOVE CUTOFF BURRS FROM THREADS, INSPECT THREADS (WITH THREAD GAGE MOUNTED IN CHUCK), COUNTERSINK HOLES, DEBURR HOLES AND REAM HOLES.

TAP IS DRIVEN BY A LONG LASTING TAPERED NEOPRENE DRIVE CONE AGAINST A DOUBLE DISC FLANGE DRIVE MECHANISM. FORWARD (PUSH) PRESSURE ON TAP CAUSES SPINDLE TO ROTATE FORWARD (COUNTER CLOCKWISE), AND BACKWARD (PULL) PRESSURE ON TAP CAUSES SPINDLE TO ROTATE BACKWARD (CLOCKWISE).

WORK TABLE IS PROVIDED FOR LOCATING HOLDING FIXTURES OR WORKPIECE AGAINST FACE PLATE. WORK TABLE CAN BE REVERSED OUT OF THE WAY WHEN NOT NEEDED. SIMPLY REMOVE WING SCREW ON END OF SLIDE SHAFT, PULL SLIDING TABLE ASSEMBLY OFF SLIDE SHAFTS, ROTATE IT 180 DEGREES, INSTALL IT BACK ONTO SLIDE SHAFTS, REPLACE WING SCREW ON END OF SHAFT.

FOR THRU TAPPING, USE TAP WITH 3 TO 5 THREAD LEAD FOR EASIER STARTING AND TO REDUCE PRESSURE REQUIRED TO TAP WORKPIECE. FOR BLIND HOLE TAPPING USE TAP WITH APPROPRIATE LEAD TO PRODUCE FULL THREAD.

IF WORKPIECE IS SMALLER THAN THE 3/4” HOLE IN THE FACE PLATE, REMOVE ADJUSTABLE “V” PLATE FROM BACK SIDE OF FACE PLATE AND SCREW TO FRONT OF FACE PLATE. ADJUST TO PROPER CENTER HEIGHT SO AS TO JUST CLEAR THE TAP, THEREBY GIVING WORKPIECE GREATEST FACE CONTACT AREA.

ADJUSTABLE “V” PLATE SHOULD BE STORED BY SCREWING TO BACK SIDE OF FACE PLATE WHEN NOT BEING USED.

TO CONTROL DEPTH OF THREAD, AS FOR BLIND HOLES, ADJUST SLIDE SO THAT TAP EXTENDS THE DESIRED DISTANCE PAST THE FACE PLATE AND INTO THE WORKPIECE. LOCK THIS SETTING IN PLACE WITH COLLAR ON SLIDE SHAFT.

MOUNT WORKPIECE SECURELY IN APPROPRIATE CLAMPING DEVICE. HOLD IT AGAINST SLIDING FACE PLATE AND LINE IT UP WITH THE TAP. TURN MOTOR ON, BE CERTAIN THAT WORKPIECE IS FLAT AGAINST FACE PLATE AND PUSH WORKPIECE ON TO TAP WITH FIRM FORWARD PRESSURE. TAP WILL ROTATE RIGHT HAND AND CUT THREAD IN WORKPIECE. CONTINUE FORWARD PRESSURE UNTIL DESIRED DEPTH OF THREAD IS ATTAINED.

WHEN TAP PASSES FULLY THROUGH WORKPIECE, OR WHEN SLIDE CONTACT DEPTH STOP (WHEN BLIND HOLE TAPPING), PULL BACKWARDS ON WORKPIECE WHILE STILL HOLDING IT AGAINST FACE PLATE. TAP WILL REVERSE DIRECTION IMMEDIATELY AND UNTHREAD OUT OF WORKPIECE.

ROTATIONAL SPEED OF TAP IS DETERMINED BY THE AMOUNT OF PUSH PRESSURE EXERTED AGAINST TAP. IT IS BEST TO EASE WORKPIECE ON TO TAP WHEN STARTING THREAD AND INCREASE PRESSURE WHEN TAP IS FULLY ENGAGED.

PILOT LIGHT ON SWITCH REMINDS YOU TO TURN OFF MOTOR WHEN NOT IN USE.

WARNING!! TO AVOID INJURIES, WORKPIECE SHOULD BE HELD IN AN APPROPRIATE CLAMPING DEVICE WHILE BEING TAPPED AND SHOULD NEVER BE HELD BY HAND WITHOUT ADEQUATE PROTECTION.
